Today, I received an electronic copy of the May 18th issue of Coin World and saw an article on page 5 that announced the discovery of a new Period-2 variety of California Gold quarter dollar. This coin has been certified by PCGS and is tentatively identified as BG799-BA. Henry |

Image of this new variety discovery has been posted at CGO with permission from Brian Koller, the researcher at Heritage who had recently discovered and reported it in the Coin World. It is listed in the 7xx series of images (after BG-799B) under this Forum section: California Fractional Gold Discussion Forums & The Home of Visual Guides to Cals & Auction Prices > Pictorial Guides & Listings > BG Variety Listings with Color Pictures > BG-7xx Note: Log in first in order to view this image at CGO. |

This newly discovered variety has been, for some reason, renamed to BG-799GG. In fact, it was slabbed by PCGS as BG-799GG MS-65, and this past weekend, it got sold by Heritage for $17,250 (including Buyer's Premium)! |
