I have recently dug out a variety of gold coins given to me by my Great Aunt 23 years ago right before she died.

I need help identifiying this token or possible cal. From all the research I have done it seems that this is most likely a token because it does not have the word "dollar" or "cent" or any form of that. Except there is a "D" right below the indian head. At first I thought is was another star circling the head. Upon further examination it is a "D". Could the "D" represent dollar? This token is currently attached to a bracelet and encirled as you see. The front has 11 stars circling the head, with the 12 digit encircling the head being the "D".

The back is a wreath with "1859" in the middle. The "1" and "9" are very worn. "CALIFORNIA" is in a semi circle across the top outside edge and "GOLD" goes along the bottom edge. On each side between the "california" and "gold" there is a star.

I also know the bracelet was put together in the 1960's so it can't be one of the more recent reproductions. There is a BG-1056 on the bracelet as well.

The "D" on the token's obverse is mostly likely a mintmark.

There is a token that is very similar to yours. However, it displays the letter "B" (instead of "D").

Perhaps, your "D" is actually a "B"? You might want to take another close look at your token. I could see that part of "D" is obscured by the bezel's rim.

It very well could be a "B". Hard to tell with the bezel on it and I don't have the tools to take it off ... just getting everything lined up. Could you direct me to the link with the "B" mintmark?

Thanks

You can find the token at www.calgoldcoins.com (different from www.calgoldonline.com).

It is somewhat difficult to locate it there, but it is listed under "Wreath #5" - a little less than halfway down on its webpage - in the group of round 1/4 (size) tokens. I wish I could give you its exact URL, but that website does not provide such an URL in my browser's window (due to the way that website is designed).
