According to "California Pioneer Fractional Gold," (2nd edition), three Periods of Cal History are presented as follows:
Period 1: 1852 - 1857 "Historic Gold Rush Small Change" Period 2: 1858 - 1882 "Suppressed Jewelers' Issues Period 3: circa 1906 - present "Reproductions for Collections" For a more in-depth introduction for each of these three Periods, it is highly recommended to get yourself a copy of what is certainly the best reference book in this little-known and long-neglected field of numismatics - "California Pioneer Fractional Gold" published by Bowers & Merena, March 2003. |
